The City of San Gabriel recognized winners and honorable mentions of its inaugural 2025 photography contest during the council meeting. Eliana Flores, assistant to the city manager, presented the program and thanked staff and volunteers who judged 42 entries and selected winners based on quality, creativity and connection to the San Gabriel community.
Six honorable mentions were recognized (including Michelle Ngo, Tessa Ugalde, Yang Liu, Scott Lynn, Jie Lu and Janet) and three winners were announced: Sean Chizdani (youth category), Kelly Quach (resident category) and James Kuo. Each winner was invited to share brief remarks about their inspiration, and the council and staff arranged group photos.
Flores and council members said the contest showcased community talent and noted the city plans additional ways to feature the photography — including a winter edition of Discover San Gabriel magazine and consideration of a permanent photo wall in council chambers.
No council action was required; the recognition was part of presentations and community outreach.
