Pike County OKs snow equipment and loader purchase to bolster road and maintenance operations

The Pike County Fiscal Court unanimously approved two capital-equipment purchases at its special meeting: plows and salter boxes for four county Kenworth trucks and a replacement end loader for the maintenance garage.
Greg, a county staff member who presented both items, told the court the county purchased four 6-wheel Kenworths with 10-foot beds and recommended outfitting them with plows and salter boxes through Baker Equipment under state/Sourcewell contract pricing for about $26,200 per truck — $104,800 total. "We can put plows and salters on the 4 Kenworth trucks we have for a total of $104,800, pursuing through Baker Equipment," Greg said.
Greg also described the need for a larger end loader for multiple uses including recycling, unloading heavy deliveries and moving precast concrete for creek work. He presented quotes for a John Deere 444P loader with a 2.5-yard bucket and 72-inch forks and said, after negotiation and adding an extended service agreement and warranty, the total price would be $190,375.14 from Boyd Equipment. "This was on our capital plan for $190,375.14," Greg said; the seller could deliver the machine in about a week, he added.
Commissioner Atkins moved to approve the purchases and the court recorded unanimous 'Yes' votes from Commissioners Scott, Atkins, Lewis and Judge Jones.
Budget and next steps: Judge Jones and commissioners noted capital-plan alignment and the operational necessity of the equipment for winter road maintenance and garage work. The county noted the loader purchase would include a maintenance agreement and negotiated parts/service credit. The clerk will complete procurement paperwork following the court’s approval.
What the court did not do: Commissioners did not approve additional equipment beyond the items presented, nor did they set detailed delivery dates during the meeting.
