Judge Jones read several lease renewals before the court, including PR4387 for the Belfry Courthouse at 25230 U.S. Highway 119 for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services at $9,990 for one year and PR5470 for space on the third floor of the Pike County Detention Center for probation and parole at $60,120 for one year. He also presented PR4471 (Phillips courthouse at 36 Mingo Street) and other agreements, and said one state police firing range lease at Cole Hollow and Island Creek was offered with no charge.
"PR5470 for probation and parole is for $60,120 to renew for one year," Judge Jones said while reading the items. After a motion to approve the renewals, the clerk recorded unanimous 'Yes' votes from Commissioner Scott, Commissioner Atkins, Commissioner Lewis and Judge Jones.
The court did not debate individual leases at length. Judge Jones said some leases have no charge while others carry specified annual sums and that the renewals will maintain county access to courthouse space, justice-related offices and state facilities for the coming year.
The leases will be executed according to the Finance and Administration Cabinet procedures; the court did not specify longer-term plans or alternate sites at the meeting.
What happens next: the clerk will process the renewals as read and the county will continue occupying the named spaces under the renewed terms.
