District staff provided an update on the energy contract, saying the vendor returned a proposal that removed the roofing/solar portion and instead left in work to install boilers and building control systems.
"We have them estimated at about $3,300,000," Miss Vercinger told the board, explaining the district already has boiler designs approved by the State Education Department (SED) and that placing the boilers alongside the control systems would ensure proper integration.
She said the vendor previously left roughly $1.9 million in the project but believes they can include the three boilers and controls in the revised scope. Miss Vercinger said she asked the vendor to resubmit numbers and that she hopes to bring an actual amendment to the contract for the board’s consideration in December public session so work could proceed over the summer.
Board members asked clarifying questions about whether roofs still require work and why the original rooftop payback period (18 years, as discussed) affected the decision to remove solar. District staff said the roof work may still be necessary at some point, but the preliminary payback did not justify including roof replacement in the current contract.
No formal contract action was taken at the meeting; staff said they will return with a formal amendment and cost figures.
