The Martin County School Board reorganized its leadership and set its regular meeting schedule at a meeting that included an annual corporate reorganization session and unanimous board votes.
Marsha Powers was elected chair by unanimous vote after a nomination and second; Dr. Brian Moriarty was elected vice chair in a separate unanimous vote. Afterward the board approved a motion to set regular meetings for the third Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m., with a scheduled exception on Monday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. to accommodate state conference conflicts. The motion to adopt the calendar and listed exceptions passed unanimously.
The board also approved a motion directing the superintendent to file the reorganization proceedings — including the meeting schedule and the names and addresses of district officers — with the Florida Department of Education within two weeks.
The reorganization included the board acting in its capacity as the Martin County School Board Leasing Corporation to appoint board members as the corporation’s directors and to designate the chair and vice chair as officers and the superintendent as secretary‑treasurer. Those motions carried unanimously.
The board recessed briefly after the reorganization and then reconvened the regular school board meeting to continue its agenda.
The actions taken were procedural and procedural votes were unanimous; the board adjourned the reorganization portion of the meeting at 4:20 p.m.
