Broward County elects Mark Bogan mayor; Robert McKenzie chosen vice mayor

The Broward County Commission elected Vice Mayor Mark Bogan as mayor and Commissioner Robert McKenzie as vice mayor during its annual reorganization meeting on Nov. 18, 2025.

A commissioner nominated Vice Mayor Mark Bogan for mayor, citing his previous service as mayor and vice mayor, his work on public‑health programs and county initiatives, and his representation of District 2. After a second, nominations were closed and the commission voted to approve the nomination. Mark Bogan then took the oath of office, swearing to ‘‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Florida and the Broward County Charter’’ and to ‘‘faithfully perform the duties of mayor.’’

Newly sworn Mayor Bogan thanked colleagues, county staff and legal and auditing offices for their support and compliance work. He also submitted a list of mayoral board appointments and asked commissioners to notify his office of interest in specific boards.

Commissioner Robert McKenzie was nominated and unanimously elected vice mayor. McKenzie repeated the oath of office and said he was ‘‘ready to continue the good work’’ of the commission.

The commission moved and approved the consent agenda during the meeting and then recessed for a photo and nameplate changes. County administration noted the agenda memorandum for the Nov. 18 meeting and confirmed that a list of mayoral appointments had been submitted for commissioner consideration.

The meeting closed with brief recognitions, a public mention of the airport CEO receiving an award from the South Florida Business Journal, a birthday acknowledgment, and an early adjournment for lunch.

What happens next: commissioners were asked to respond to Mayor Bogan’s office about interest in specific board appointments; other agenda items noted on the Nov. 18 memorandum will proceed according to the regular meeting schedule.
