The board discussed one explicit deviation from MSBA language: the district removed a clause that would limit distribution to particular hours and locations ("time, place and manner"), citing that student journalism and publications are now often distributed electronically and the restriction would not reflect current practice.
Paul said the district consulted staff who teach journalism and publication courses and that those instructors recommended removing the time/place/manner definition because it would limit standard classroom activity and digital distribution. After questions, a motion to adopt Policy 512 passed by voice vote.
The policy was presented as a mandatory MSBA‑aligned update; administrators encouraged community members to provide additional feedback via email if they had concerns before finalized implementation.
Separately, the board took a first read on Policy 605 (alternative educational services) and postponed a revocation that had been discussed earlier pending further financial advice.
