Facilities staff presented a project-specific five-year draft for the sales surtax renewal that prioritizes roofs, HVAC and technology, and includes athletic turf conversions and pool renovations; the plan will go to the citizens oversight committee before final board action.
Facilities director Sue Han gave the board a project-specific draft of a five-year sales surtax renewal plan intended to fund facility renewal and targeted improvements.
Han said the draft assumes between $40 million and $45 million per year for facility renewal projects and emphasized roofing and air-conditioning upgrades, security integration, classroom modernizations and door/window renewals. Athletic projects include six turf conversions and two major pool renovations in the five-year window, Han said, and staff has also proposed targeted investment in playground surfacing and ADA accessibility.
Han said staff had been conservative about programming interest and would revisit project lists if revenue trends change. She told the board the draft would be presented to the citizens oversight committee in December and refined for a final document in the February'March timeframe.
Board members asked about project prioritization and lifecycle concerns. Han said the district has roughly 12.9 million square feet of building space and that condition assessments support the proposed allocation mix. Members thanked staff for the data and asked for digital copies of the draft plan for further review.
Next steps: staff will bring the draft to the citizens oversight committee in December, refine the plan and return to the board for a final recommendation in early 2026.
