Gun Barrel City Council confirmed Colby McBride as the city’s fire chief following an executive session on Nov. 18.
Council convened into closed session at 7:06 p.m. under Texas Local Government Code §551.074 to deliberate personnel matters related to the fire chief vacancy. After reconvening, City Manager Dr. Doug Smith said the fire‑chief post had been vacant since March and that Colby McBride had served as interim fire chief; Smith recommended council confirm McBride as the permanent fire chief. Councilmember (Speaker 6) moved to confirm the city manager’s recommendation; Evan seconded. A roll‑call vote recorded yes votes (Burns, Evan, Jacobs, Hinson, Edward) and the motion passed.
Judge Grace Wallace came forward to swear in Colby McBride. The mayor invited Assistant Chief Rainey, McBride’s wife and his father for a pinning ceremony. McBride addressed the assembly briefly. Council congratulated him and adjourned the meeting.
The appointment resulted from a personnel deliberation held in executive session and the council took a formal confirmation vote in public session.
