Policy committee advances temperature standards and updates pregnant-student policy; board adopts three resolutions unanimously

Director Carlo, speaking for the Policy & Rules Committee, reported out committee activity and introduced two resolutions for first reading.

Resolution 12 would establish policy EBBD, "Temperature Standards for Schools," defining an interior temperature range between 68°F and 82°F in compliance with recently referenced legislation. Carlo said the resolution directs steps schools may take when temperatures move outside the range — opening windows, turning on fans, enabling air conditioning where available, and, on extreme-heat days, rescheduling important tests or exams as needed; decisions about delay, dismissal or cancellation would remain with the superintendent.

Resolution 13 proposes amendments to policy code JIE (pregnant students) to update statutory references and remove the title of "affirmative action officer" while retaining the role and responsibilities of the Title IX coordinator.

On second reading Director Carlo moved adoption of Resolutions 9, 10 and 11. After no discussion the motions were put to a vote and carried unanimously, with the chair recording 11 directors voting in the affirmative.

Carlo also said Resolutions 7 and 8 had been transmitted to the committee earlier and staff were drafting amendments; those resolutions remain in committee pending revised language. The board did not adopt Resolution 12 or 13 at this meeting — they were reported for first reading only and will return in updated form at a later meeting.
