Board approves consent agenda, closes open enrollment for new elementary and accepts district gifts

At its Nov. 18 meeting the Osseo Public School District board approved the consent agenda and a set of related motions, including action on open-enrollment limitations tied to a district boundary freeze and acceptance of gifts to the district.

Chair Tanya Prince reviewed the consent packet, which included minutes, financial reports, fundraisers, extended educational trips, personnel items, grants, partnership agreements, a Minnesota State High School League resolution for Park Center Senior High School, outdoor classroom bid awards for three elementary schools, and an open‑enrollment resolution. She explained the open‑enrollment closure: the district is closing open enrollment at some schools at capacity and also closing open enrollment for the new elementary to prevent non‑district transfers that would circumvent the district boundary freeze.

The board moved, seconded and approved the consent agenda 6‑0.

Later the board approved gifts to the district described as totaling $62,142.50 in the packet, while the motion language referenced $62,152.50. The gifts include cash and in‑kind donations such as winter jackets and snow pants collected by community partners. Director Tate moved to accept the gifts and Director Foster seconded; the motion passed 6‑0.

Why it matters: The consent agenda advances routine administrative actions and the open‑enrollment resolution affects where students may attend in the near term. The gifts represent community support for student needs; the minor discrepancy in the total gift amount as stated in the packet versus the motion should be clarified in published minutes.
