Policy committee advances medication policy change and proposed religious‑based exemption to December board

The Union County Public Schools policy committee voted to forward several policies to the full board for action at the December meeting, including revisions that change how epinephrine is referenced and a proposed new religious‑based exemptions policy.

Attorney Morris told the committee that revisions to policy 3-19 (administration of medication/first aid) and policy 4-06 (administration of medicines) are limited to replacing the statutory term "auto‑injector" with "delivery system" to reflect a change in statute concerning epinephrine. "The revisions to these policies are due to recent statutory changes," Morris said, adding that there had been no stakeholder feedback since prior committee and board reviews.

Morris also introduced a proposed new policy to address religious objections required by Session Law 2025-84 and recommended the committee forward that policy to the board. "This policy is recommended to address the religious objection requirement from Session Law 2025-84," Morris said.

An unidentified committee member moved to send the three items (policies 3-19 and 4-06, plus the proposed religious‑based exemptions policy) to the full board; after a second, the committee approved the motion by voice vote.

The committee packet and Morris's presentation did not report stakeholder feedback on the religious‑based exemption, and staff asked the board to consider the items at its December meeting.
