Ormond Beach honors Police Foundation and marks public works director's retirement

The Ormond Beach City Commission used part of its Nov. 4 agenda for ceremonial recognitions honoring the Ormond Beach Police Foundation and Deputy Public Works Director Kevin Gray.
Mayor Jason Leslie read a proclamation declaring Nov. 4, 2025, a day to honor the Ormond Beach Police Foundation and cited foundation contributions including funding for canine teams, ballistic shields, drones, officer training and a compassion fund to assist victims. Foundation representatives said the group provides training and equipment that relieve pressure on the city budget and announced a $100,000 matching gift that—if the foundation raises an additional $75,000—would produce $200,000 in new funds for department training and services.
"These foundations help us train our officers, equip them with technology and equipment," said a police representative during remarks, thanking donors and encouraging community support.
The commission also presented a proclamation and a ceremonial key to the city to Deputy Public Works Director Kevin Gray, who retires after 36 years with the city. Gray reflected on his long tenure, his role as the city's first recycling coordinator and his work overseeing stormwater, fleet and street maintenance.
