Mayor Debbie Lynn announced grants from the annual mayor’s golf tournament at the Tooele City Council meeting on Nov. 19, 2025, thanking volunteers and business sponsors and distributing funds to local youth organizations.
The mayor told the council the tournament is a community effort and that sponsorships allow the city to support thousands of young people: "We call it the mayor's tournament, but ... You did this," she said, directing thanks to volunteers and sponsors. She read a list of corporate and local sponsors and invited representatives forward to receive checks.
She described specific awards: grant support for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Salt Lake (Tooele Club) to fund youth development programming; funds for Scouting Troop 314 to buy outdoor gear and STEM materials; a pledge to the Tooele Education Foundation to provide scholarships for up to 60 students to attend a summer program at the Oquirrh Canyon Education Center (described in the meeting as a $55 program, with transportation and lunch covered); and three mayor’s leadership scholarships of $500 each funded through the Tooele Education Foundation (the mayor said $1,500 was allocated for those scholarships).
Other awards included support for Tooele Junior High PTSA’s free May carnival, expansion of the USU Extension 4‑H drone team (drones, shirts and supplies), equipment and scholarships for the Tooele Ute conference, production costs for Tooele Valley Academy of Dance’s Nutcracker, and funding for Tooele Valley Theatre’s spring 2026 youth camp and a potential family musical in fall 2026. The mayor also noted funding to support the Ochre Hills Junior Golf program (which she estimated had about 200 participants) and the Pratt Aquatic Center age-group swim team, the Sea Serpents.
Brent Holbrook, market director for Charter Credit Union, offered brief remarks on behalf of sponsors, praising the mayor’s efforts and the tournament’s role in the community: "We just really appreciate being a part of the community," he said.
No council action was required on the presentations. The mayor closed the awards portion after recognizing sponsors and recipients.
