Milton staff recommend replacing rescue truck; five-year lease-purchase would start FY27

City staff told the Milton council that the fire department’s rescue truck has spent more days in the shop than in service and recommended a replacement through a piggyback procurement using the sheriff’s contract.
Staff presented a 2026 Ford F-550 service-body configuration priced at $436,411 with a $12,661 prepayment discount. The city would use a five-year lease-purchase with 4.84% interest, 0% down and annual payments of roughly $100,366.88 beginning in October 2026 (FY27). No expenditures are required in the current fiscal year, staff said.
The replacement is part of the department’s established 10-year rotation for apparatus; staff noted that engine replacements occur at five-year intervals. Council members said the item could be moved to the consent agenda and discussed budgeting impacts for FY27, including that a prior debt payoff temporarily freed capacity in the current budget.
Staff said the lease payments would be integrated into the fire service fee after year one to recover costs.
