Cullman council approves multi‑department Samsara contracts and installation agreement

The council approved a one‑year Samsara agreement for the police department in an amount not to exceed $16,807.45 and a one‑year agreement for the water department (which includes video capability) not to exceed $24,500. Council also adopted a three‑year Samsara agreement for all other city departments in an amount not to exceed $276,573.76. The mayor and council said the subscriptions and devices were discussed during budget hearings and represent a shift from prior Verizon services recommended by risk management and IT.
A related resolution approved Alpha Communications to perform device installations across the city for an amount not to exceed $23,300. Council members said the water‑department devices include video, accounting for higher cost, and that some devices will be tried for one year only before longer commitments.
Presiding officer: "We've been using Verizon, but it's been recommended by risk management... and we're gonna give it a try," reflecting the city's intent to evaluate the new vendor.
Next steps: departments will implement the trial year and IT/risk management will monitor outcomes and costs before future renewals.
