Crestview manager updates council on finances, projects and community support during shutdown

City manager Jessica reported that the city will pause late fees and utility disconnects for one additional billing cycle while the federal government shutdown continues and staff monitor developments so that residents are not immediately subject to fees or disconnects when policy changes occur.
The manager also updated the council on capital‑project timelines: Walmart’s site work has tree removal activity and a hoped‑for groundbreaking in the coming weeks, though no firm construction completion date exists; the downtown education center showed structural damage on inspection, but an engineer’s report allowed the project to resume. On speed cameras, the manager said the city is coordinating with FDOT and the power company about new poles and that the installation schedule has been slower than hoped but nearing an end of a six‑week estimate.
Council members and staff highlighted community events and relief efforts: the Veterans Day Parade is scheduled for Nov. 11 at 9 a.m., with a Nov. 11 Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. at the Courthouse Terrace; the Crestview Concern group recently distributed 140 meals at Spanish Trail Park and council members discussed using discretionary funds to support additional community food assistance while the shutdown continues.
Next steps: Staff will present finalized financial statements in December, continue coordination on the utility‑fee pause, monitor contractor timelines for projects, and pursue community assistance options for residents affected by the shutdown.
