Crestview to suspend disconnects, waive late fees during initial government-shutdown billing cycle

Councilmembers expressed broad support. Councilmember Allison said the proposal matched the meeting’s earlier invocation about community care; Councilman Hayes said he fully supported the move. The manager emphasized that late fees would be waived temporarily while bills remain due later and that bond-covenant requirements will guide longer-term decisions.
What residents should know: The city will not disconnect utilities for nonpayment for the initial billing cycle during the announced dates, but bills remain owed and the city will reassess staffing and fiscal impacts if relief extends beyond the short term.
