Dade City CRA streamlines paint, facade grants and adds DIY reimbursement option

The Dade City Community Redevelopment Agency on Tuesday approved changes to its downtown grant programs that simplify applications and add a do-it-yourself reimbursement option for homeowners.
Staff presented revisions to the residential paint grant and the commercial façade program. Miss Ralston, CRA staff, said homeowners approved for a residential paint grant "would receive an approval of up to $2,500 for a single story home and up to $5,000 for a 2 story home." She added that homeowners choosing to do their own work may submit receipts for materials and will be reimbursed up to their approved amount; contractors’ invoices may include labor but the total paid reimbursement cannot exceed the grant cap.
Ralston said the commercial façade program remains a 50% matching grant, capped at $15,000 and calculated from the lower of two contractor bids.
Commissioners had questions about color samples and brochure design; one commissioner asked that the city logo be added to program materials and requested photos more reflective of Dade City. After discussion the board moved to adopt the staff recommendations and voted 5–0 to approve the grant program updates.
The new application form will let residents submit a simple interest form to start the process, and staff will verify tax and code compliance using internal records rather than requiring applicants to provide duplicate documentation.
