Hector Reyes, community outreach specialist for the Florida Turnpike Enterprise, presented a corridor update on the SR‑821 Turnpike extension through Cutler Bay on Nov. 19. The project, which FDOT estimated at about $37 million, will add a northbound turnpike lane between Cutler Ridge Boulevard and US‑1, add turn lanes at Hayley Mill Road, widen the Caribbean Boulevard bridge, and install noise walls where qualifying.
Reyes described maintenance of traffic plans and work windows: daytime work Monday–Saturday (7 a.m.–6 p.m.) and overnight operations Sunday–Thursday (9 p.m.–5 a.m.) to lower daytime congestion. He emphasized outreach coordination with the town, homeowners associations and businesses and noted QR‑linked weekly traffic advisories for construction and lane closures.
Council members thanked FDOT and noted commute improvements are widely needed for residents who regularly use the corridor. No formal town action was required; FDOT asked the town to help share traffic advisories and contractor outreach information.
