At its Nov. 3, 2025 special organizational meeting, the Chelsea City Council elected Scott Weigand as council president and selected Christopher (Chris) Grace as council vice president.
Nominations opened after the ceremonial swearing-in and a roll call vote was held for the council president nomination. Roll-call results recorded each voting member answering 'Aye' and the presiding officer announced that Scott Weigand had been elected council president. Following the vote, the mayor cited Section 11-43-2 of the Code of Alabama, which, for municipalities meeting the specified population threshold, provides that the mayor shall not sit with the council nor vote in its proceedings; the mayor then turned future presiding responsibilities over to the council president.
After the election, Council President Scott Weigand thanked his colleagues and said he would "lead with honor and integrity" and emphasize listening and constant communication. Christopher Grace was nominated and accepted for the role of vice president; members offered brief remarks about working with the new administration.
The elections were conducted as part of the meeting's organizational business and were followed by routine council items and consent resolutions.
