Mayor Riesch and the Mission Viejo City Council presented certificates of commendation Oct. 28 to athletes from the Mission Viejo Natadors who competed in recent national and world championships. Council members invited the athletes to the dais and recognized multiple individual achievements, including national championships and international competition participation.
Kim Carr, representing Senator Catherine Blakespear's office, praised the athletes as “the future of Mission Viejo,” and Andrew Garcia from Congresswoman Young Kim’s office extended congratulations on behalf of the congresswoman. Michelle, a Natadors representative, summarized the team’s recent results, saying the club had national champions, junior world competitors and master swimmers ranked among the nation’s best.
The council noted the Natadors’ contributions to local sports development and community engagement. Coach John Appleman joined the council onstage for photographs and the assembled attendees applauded the athletes. The council said certificates that could not be presented in person would be distributed through the team’s staff.
The recognition came at the start of the regular meeting and council members said they planned social media and photo opportunities to highlight the program.
