Auditor briefs board on election schedule, satellite voting and a petition for a medical services district

County Auditor Todd Taylor told the board Linn County mailed a countywide election flyer with a QR code for absentee-ballot requests and reported strong public engagement: in one week the office saw more requests than it had in eight weeks the prior year. He said satellite voting locations and details will be posted Oct. 8; in-person absentee voting starts Oct. 15 and the deadline for absentee-mail requests is 5 p.m. on Oct. 20. Election Day is Nov. 4.
Taylor also described administrative and staffing notes—temporary account technician Deanna Hood returned from retirement to help during staff medical leave—and training events including township officer training on Nov. 13.
On petitions, he said the county received a petition for a medical services district governed by chapter 357F that crosses into Johnson County; county staff are preparing the required review and publications and are coordinating with the petitioner in the neighboring county, which expects to deliver its petition Oct. 16.
