Communications: Linn County website passes accessibility benchmark; redesign on track for early 2026

Joy Alexander, Linn County’s communications director, told the Board the county website’s accessibility compliance has risen to 92.4%, placing it above the industry average.
"I just looked at it this morning. We are now at 92.4% compliance," Alexander said, crediting an accessibility tool that flags broken links and errors for content managers. She said staff will continue work toward further improvements but do not expect 100% to be realistic.
Alexander also reviewed the county’s editorial calendar and outreach plans: a Soil Conservation PSA on no-till practices in partnership with the Linn Soil and Water Conservation District; a joint news release and signage plan with conservation about the Mattel Park bridge closure and access restriction; and ongoing work on mental-health-access videos produced by De Novo that will be distributed using opioid-settlement funds.
On the website redesign, Alexander said CivicPlus presented initial layouts and the county must finalize layout and color proposals by Nov. 7 in order to maintain a February–March 2026 launch window. She said communications staff have created a dedicated web page for data-center information and will post meeting notices, drafts and outreach materials as they are ready.
Alexander said she has begun discussing an AI policy with IT and Planning & Development to pilot safe uses of AI in workflows before drafting a countywide policy.
The Board accepted the communications update as informational.
