Board proclaims Operation Greenlight for veterans, recognizes September and October veterans of the month
Summary
The Linn County Board adopted a proclamation supporting Operation Greenlight for veterans (Nov. 4–11) and ceremonially recognized Joseph Mikolic and Christopher Peacock as Linn County veterans of the month for September and October 2025, respectively.
The Linn County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 10 adopted a proclamation supporting Operation Greenlight for veterans and encouraging residents to display green lights from Nov. 4 through Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Unidentified Speaker 1 read the proclamation, which noted the contributions of service members and cited a National Association of Counties recommendation encouraging counties to recognize Operation Greenlight. The proclamation text stated that veterans continue to serve the community and included a figure that "more than $52 billion" in federal health, disability and compensation benefits flow annually, language the board read as part of the proclamation.
The proclamation was moved, seconded by Unidentified Speaker 2 and adopted after a recorded 'Aye' vote.
The meeting also included ceremonial recognitions. Unidentified Speaker 1 read a letter honoring Joseph Mikolic as Linn County’s veteran of the month for September 2025, noting 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force and leadership on the Linn County Veterans Affairs Commission. The board also read a letter recognizing Christopher Peacock as veteran of the month for October 2025 for service in the U.S. Navy and the Iowa Army National Guard and for local veterans advocacy.
These recognitions were ceremonial and did not require further action.
