The Scurry County Commissioners Court recognized Heather James as the county’s Employee of the Month for September 2025, praising her work since May 2020 and her promotion to Youth Center director in June 2021.
Speaker 2 told the court that since her appointment as director, Heather James "has brought back T‑ball, soccer, volleyball," started "an angel tree and a book reading and comprehension program," and launched a handwriting class to teach cursive. Speaker 2 said James’ "initiative and drive has made the youth center a thriving and exciting program for kids of all ages and backgrounds in Scurry County." (announcement by Speaker 2)
Heather James responded, "I assure you the honor is mine...I truly love my job," expressing appreciation for the recognition and for county support. Other attendees praised James’ work and a parent present said the children love her programs.
During the same agenda segment, the court reported donations to county entities: Speaker 2 said the senior center received $2,107.50 and noted additional donations to the library including cash, books and magazines. Speaker 4 asked to add the library’s upcoming book sale to the schedule and said the sale is expected to be the largest yet and that storage capacity is full.
The court did not record additional formal action on the recognition beyond the announcement. The meeting continued with financial and contractual matters on the agenda.
