At the meeting a supervisor cautioned, “If they don't get the grant, we may be responsible for that contract period.”
A motion to approve the agreement was made and seconded and the board approved the timber-management agreement by voice vote; the audio record indicates the vote was unanimous. Supervisors and staff said the timber-management plan would recommend which stands were ready for harvest and which should be cultivated for future growth; the plan also identified multiple species and age classes, including walnut.
Board members noted that timber sales could generate revenue to help fund ongoing maintenance but also flagged the need for clearer budget language if the county were to accept contractual obligations before grant award notifications. The board did not set a monetary county commitment at the meeting.
