Hollywood Park police report: skimmer investigation, disturbance suspect identified and DEA recognition for undercover officer

Hollywood Park’s police leadership on Nov. 18 briefed the council on recent public-safety incidents, crime investigations and staffing.
Sergeant Travis Thornton, filling in for Police Chief Pritchard, said the department handled 368 calls for service in October, six offense reports and six arrests, and is investigating several burglaries and a reported stolen laptop from a hotel on U.S. 281. Thornton said the department identified a suspect in a recent disturbance near the Paseo Canada and Boyd Drive intersection and is coordinating with the San Antonio Police Department on aspects of the case; charges are being prepared for submission to the district attorney.
Thornton reported a skimmer device was found on pump No. 7 at the Valero/Circle K after store staff initially thought the pump malfunctioned. The Texas Financial Crimes Information Center has been asked to analyze the device and the matter remains an open investigation. Thornton said one resident reported possible fraudulent charges on social media but, as of the meeting, no fraud had been formally reported to police.
In a separate announcement, Thornton said a special officer assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration was recognized by the FBI’s Criminal Investigations Division as among its top-10 productive investigations for 2024 (Operation No Lift). That officer’s identity remains protected because of undercover status, but Thornton said the recognition reflected significant interagency work that benefited the town and wider investigations.
Thornton urged residents to report suspicious activity via dispatch and reminded the public that for urgent emergencies they should call 911.
