Madison County Commission chairman McCutcheon told the school board on Nov. 20 that the commission had agreed to contribute funds to help place cameras on high school campuses to enhance school safety.
“All of your members, Bill Byrd and Heath Jones, contacted us in reference to school safety,” McCutcheon said. He framed the commission’s contribution as an extension of long-standing county support for school resource officers and campus safety equipment.
Superintendent and board members thanked the commission and said district leaders already had plans to use the contribution for safety investments. “Madison County Schools is one of the leaders in the state as far as safety, and this is just another step that we appreciate the commission helping us out with,” the superintendent said.
The donation was presented during the board meeting and a photograph was taken; board members encouraged continuing collaboration between the school system and the county commission on safety and economic-development ties.
What’s next: District staff indicated plans to allocate the funds toward campus cameras; no formal procurement action was taken at the meeting beyond the presentation.
