The Louisiana K–12 School Safety Task Force met to hear demonstrations from multiple school-security vendors and discuss how districts might implement technology and training to reduce risks in classrooms, on buses and at campus perimeters. Chair opened the meeting, called the roll (18 members present) and said the panel’s purpose was to review options and gather information for legislators and staff.
Vendors that presented included Homeland Safety Systems, Raptor Technologies, RhinoWare (Campus Safety Products), Verkada and Navigate360. Presentations covered hardware (lockdown devices, cameras, bus systems), integrated software (panic buttons, drill and reunification management, analytics) and sensor suites (vape and gunshot detectors, keyword-capable environmental sensors). Committee members repeatedly pressed vendors on privacy safeguards, technical interoperability with 911 systems, procurement models and whether vendors accept liability or require indemnification clauses.
Representative Freiberg moved to approve prior minutes; the motion was seconded by Sheriff Jason Richardson and the chair announced the minutes were approved with no objections. The chair and vendors agreed on follow-up items and requested additional written documentation and demos for the broader legislature and education committees in the coming months.
What’s next: staff will schedule follow-up briefings and circulate vendor documentation; legislators said they expect to evaluate funding options and any statutory changes before recommending purchases or statewide programs.
