Beloit council denies liquor license for 1006 Woodward, approves hospital rezoning, design exception and ambulance purchase

Beloit City Council voted on several land-use and licensing items at its regular meeting, most notably rejecting a liquor license for a proposed grocery-and-liquor store at 1006 Woodward Avenue and approving multiple development and equipment requests.

The council voted 2–5 to deny Resolution 2025-155, which would have granted KT Patel Incorporated a new Class A fermented malt beverage and Class A intoxicating liquor license for a business to operate as Beloit Liquor and Grocery at 1006 Woodward Avenue. Several residents and written commenters said the neighborhood already has a high density of liquor sellers and raised concerns about potential increases in crime and domestic violence. In public comment, Matt Ruh of 822 Park Avenue said he opposed the license and asked the council to vote no.
