Speaker 1 told reporters that heavy rain had flooded tents and large areas where displaced people in the Gaza Strip are sheltering, leaving families "highly vulnerable to inclement weather." Humanitarian partners have been repurposing empty sacks of flour and food to contain flooding, but the UN said more assistance is required.
Speaker 1 said humanitarian colleagues described the scale of need as immense and reported impediments to aid delivery, including the systematic denial of critical items and bans on operations by some partner NGOs. "We continue to work to see that these restrictions are lifted," Speaker 1 said.
The briefing also cited a secretary‑general appeal for member states to meet a $4,000,000,000 flash appeal to support the humanitarian response. Speaker 1 said some child‑friendly spaces damaged in earlier storms had resumed operations, restoring services to children in Khan Yunis, while OCHA and partners established a new safe space in the Al Katibah area of Gaza City.
The spokesperson described protection and gender concerns, citing UN Population Fund reporting that most women in Gaza have been displaced multiple times and face increased risks of early marriage and gender‑based violence. UNFPA and other teams are providing psychosocial care and reopening safe spaces for women and girls.
Speaker 1 did not announce new access guarantees or an immediate increase in UN‑controlled relief supplies; the briefing stressed that lifting operational restrictions and increased donor funding are necessary for a scaled response.
