The Northeastern Regional Advisory Council reviewed and approved proposed changes to the 2025–27 hunt table and season dates, with the RAC voting unanimously to accept the revisions as presented.
Cache‑Ogden district biologist Sam Robertson explained that one boundary change—the southeast boundary—was moved west to follow a canal to reduce potential conflicts with agricultural operations that feed cattle along the previous line. "There was a couple reasons, to make it easier," Robertson said, noting the move reduces overlap with feeding areas.
RAC members discussed the scheduling of archery-only "once-in-a-lifetime" bison hunts, which have been held in late season since about 2017 in the Henrys. Staff said the later dates reflect a trade-off: archery-only tags give devoted archers a dedicated opportunity but are less efficient at harvesting animals, and season timing was adjusted to achieve population objectives where needed.
The RAC debated broader concerns including past helicopter work that impacted a mountain goat hunt and long-term tradeoffs between earlier versus later archery seasons. After discussion a motion to pass the hunt table and season-date revisions was made, seconded and passed unanimously.
Next steps: the department will implement the approved season dates and boundaries as presented and continue public meetings including mule‑deer growth meetings scheduled Jan. 13–14.
