District academic leaders updated the board on the literacy implementation plan tied to the June 2025 academic audit and described a three‑year target trajectory for improving universal‑screener outcomes.
Chief Academic Officer Jennifer Mims Howe said the district is prioritizing Tier 1 instruction and structured literacy approaches informed by the science of reading. Ana Gabriela Jimenez (academic superintendent for literacy) and partners from MGT outlined implementation supports: a district literacy leadership team, coherent PD cycles, principal supervision, classroom coaching, and monitoring of both instructional fidelity and teacher/leader perceptions.
MGT's Sarah Annucci explained that teacher feedback prompted an upgrade from virtual/module materials toward HMH Volume 3—printed teacher and student materials and a longer‑term pacing guide. District staff said the goal is to have printed kits in classrooms and to begin full implementation at semester; they described logistics work (school‑by‑school verification of sections, languages, and delivery contacts) and suggested deliveries could start the week of Dec. 15 if schools return timely data. The administration emphasized built‑in coaching and classroom modeling rather than one‑off workshops.
Board members asked about family engagement and bilingual supports; administration said parent coordinators, FACE and DAC meetings, and translated resources will be used to reach families and that the rollout will include materials and supports for bilingual parents.
