City identifies dozens of leaks at water tank; repair strategy and costs pending

Roswell water/wastewater staff told the Infrastructure Committee that, after filling a recently repaired Southbank water tank, crews discovered approximately 34 additional leaks primarily around the base.

Staff said the tank was partially filled to test repairs and that further defects became evident during that process: "they discovered more leaks... there's about an additional 34 leaks around that tank," a staff member said. Crews drained the tank, marked leak locations and plan to meet to discuss potential change orders and repair strategies that range from injection/patch techniques to more extensive surface remediation.

Committee members noted the potential for high repair costs; staff said a full replacement would be a multimillion-dollar project and that they will return with a recommended approach and cost estimates once options are evaluated. The committee asked staff to pursue cost-effective repairs while ensuring long-term system reliability.

Next steps: staff will assess repair methods, produce cost estimates and present recommendations for a course of action and any needed change orders to the committee or council for approval.
