The Danbury School District Board of Education on an evening meeting approved several policy updates, accepted financial reports and adopted district goals for 2025–26, the board chair said during a routine agenda that also included a superintendent report showing modest gains in the district’s accountability measure.
The board voted to adopt policy 5141.4 (reporting of child abuse, neglect and sexual assault), policy 5145.15 (directory information), policy 5145.42 (discrimination), and policy 5145.5 (harassment/exploitation) following motions from committee members and voice votes that carried each item. The board also accepted the October 2025 financial report, which includes the district’s 2025–26 alliance budget allocations, and approved the superintendent’s district goals for 2025–26.
Superintendent (unnamed in the transcript) reported the district’s accountability measure is “up 2 and a half percentage points over last year,” and described the change as a positive trend while noting that “we have a lot of areas that still need a lot of work” and that the board will review detailed accountability data after the winter break. The superintendent said state alliance monitoring visits will take place this year, with the first visit scheduled for March 9 and additional visits in June; teams will conduct instructional rounds to observe classroom practice as part of that monitoring.
During the meeting the board also acknowledged reelected members Al Almeda, Rich Giannelli and Louisa Britton and thanked outgoing members Michelle Coelho, Teresa Buzade and Julie Milano for their service. The board welcomed new members Cindy Henry, Sean Ratchford and Sherry LeBlanc.
A student representative, Amelia Schwitzer, identified herself as the treasurer for the board of governors and reported on recent student activities including a senior pep rally, the marching band’s state win and national placement, the football team reaching states for the first time in 22 years, spring musical casting for Jesus Christ Superstar, parent-teacher conferences this week and upcoming winter sports.
The finance director reported the district completed the 2024 audit last week at City Hall and said the FY25 audit work will begin soon. Board members asked staff to provide the alliance budget allocation details, including the priority allocation, at a future meeting.
The meeting concluded after a brief chair report about the Connecticut Teacher of the Year event at the Bushnell on Dec. 2 and a motion to adjourn.
