El Segundo City Council on Nov. 18 introduced an ordinance to amend the development agreement for the city media campus to allow professional sports team headquarters at the site. City staff said a WNBA club announced in September its intent to build a 55,000-square-foot facility estimated at $150,000,000 on Rosecrans Avenue just east of Sepulveda Boulevard.
The proposal was presented as part of a public hearing on the amendment. During public comment, Reagan Pebley, identified as the Sparks general manager, and Tim Cat, identified as a Transwestern commercial real estate representative, addressed the council in support of the proposal. Meeting materials and the council recap did not specify site plan approvals, public benefits, or the final terms of the proposed development agreement amendment.
Council members did not take final action on Nov. 18; the ordinance was introduced and scheduled for second reading and public hearing at the Dec. 2 council meeting. Recordings and agenda materials posted with the meeting provide the initial presentation and public comments cited by staff.
Next steps: the council will consider the ordinance at second reading on Dec. 2, when council members may vote to adopt the amendment, request additional conditions, or continue deliberation.
