Canton program updates: new Priority Waste portal, curbside recycling and compost pilot
Summary
Canton This Month announced a Priority Waste online portal for service requests, promoted single-stream curbside recycling for single-family homes, and said the township's food-compost pilot has diverted more than 300,000 pounds of waste from the landfill.
Diane Baker, host of Canton This Month, told viewers that Priority Waste has launched a new online portal allowing residents to submit service requests and receive text or email updates as their requests are processed. Baker said the portal will replace the township's prior internal form and directed residents to Priority Waste's municipalities page for access.
Baker outlined three local waste programs: single-stream curbside recycling for single-family homes (with guidance to check cantonmi.gov for an accepted-materials list); Simple Recycling, a for-profit clothing and small-item pickup program offered free to residents with scheduled porch pickups; and a food-composting pilot program. Baker said the compost pilot "has successfully diverted over 300,000 pounds of waste from the landfill" and noted there are multiple convenient drop-off locations around the community.
The segment was informational and did not record any formal action by the township; Baker provided web resources for residents to learn more and to find list of accepted materials.
