The Socorro City School Service Commission voted Nov. 24 to adopt a revised C-O7 personal-relationships policy that narrows prior allowances and frames workplace relationships that create conflicts of interest as impermissible.
"This new policy is broadened, more direct, and enforces a stricter boundaries to protect the workplace integrity, the safety, and the equitability of treatment for all employees," said Carol, the HR director, presenting the item and offering to answer questions.
Commissioners stated they had no further changes to propose on record and moved to approve the item as written. The motion was seconded and approved by roll call: Commissioners Albert Ortiz, Carlos Ortiz, Alex Miranda and Claudia Olmos voted yes.
The HR director described the policy as eliminating prior allowances for reporting and reassignment when relationships create a conflict risk; the change was presented as a preventive measure to reduce harassment or favoritism and to protect equitable treatment across departments.
The commission adopted the revision by unanimous recorded vote of members present. Implementation is expected to be managed by Human Resources with guidance to supervisors on handling suspected conflicts under the revised standard.
