Brewster County on Nov. 25 approved new contracts aimed at expanding tourism promotion for Big Bend.
Tourism/marketing staff (Speaker 2) said the county will contract with 12 Rounds of Media to create short video content for a county YouTube channel; the company has already filmed local events and will be paid in staged payments, including a roughly $20,000 down payment. Speaker 2 said the county has committed an additional $40,000 to develop a more active YouTube presence and that the vendor will both edit existing footage and shoot new material for seasonal promotion.
The court also approved two half‑page advertising placements through PowerPlay Marketing for USA Today publications: one in a 'Guide to the National Parks' and another in the 'Go Escape Texas and Southwest' insert. The tourism presenter described the placements as standard promotional activity to maintain a presence in target advertising markets.
Both contracts were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The tourism presenter said detailed performance information (for example, visitation numbers tied to specific ads) was not yet available but that preliminary post‑event occupancy indicators from recent events were encouraging; staff said they expect firmer numbers by the next court meeting.
