The Hewlett housing, land use, environment and transportation committee voted unanimously to place items 6, 7 and 9 on the consent calendar and carried the motion in a roll call vote.
Chair Margaret Abekoga and Vice Chair Sylvia Arenas both spoke in support. A commissioner previewed item 6, saying the county will deploy wildfire detection sensors in the wildland–urban interface and that nine sensors will be installed in District 1 to help early detection and response. Committee members also thanked staff and partner agencies for the sensor deployment plan and noted three wind sensors are included to better capture conditions that affect fire behavior.
On the housing element update (item 7), speakers praised planning staff and the intergovernmental relations team for elevating legislative opportunities since the item’s prior hearing. Members discussed the county’s substantially larger RHNA allocation and the interaction of annexation timing and permit counting. The committee requested follow‑up with HCD and other partners to clarify counting approaches and possible interim measures.
The motion to move the items to consent passed on a roll call vote with Vice Chair Arenas and Chair Abekoga recorded as voting in favor. No public speakers addressed these consent items during the meeting.
The committee’s approval places the wildfire sensor deployment and housing element status reports on the consent calendar for final board action according to the Board of Supervisors’ process.
