Ginger Johnson, executive director of Abigail's Arms Cooke County Family Crisis Center, presented the county's Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) annual report and described training and protocol updates to county commissioners.
Johnson said the multidisciplinary team, chaired by the county judge in accordance with Texas Senate Bill 476, meets quarterly and includes the district attorney, law enforcement representatives, a SANE nurse, mental health professionals and community-based victim advocates. She said Abigail's Arms has conducted trainings with the SANE nurse and law enforcement to clarify roles and victim-centered procedures and that the SART protocols were updated to comply with Senate Bill 476.
The presentation noted the submitted report covers adult victims only; Johnson said child victims receive exams through the child advocacy center performed by "Miss Sharon." Johnson described a reviewed adult victim case that highlighted differences in how victims perceive interactions with responders and urged continued attention to victim-centered practices.
Commissioners moved to accept the SART annual report and voted unanimously, 3-0, to approve it.
The approval carries no additional program funding or ordinance language in the meeting record; Johnson thanked the court for its support and closed by reiterating the team's readiness for next year's processes.
