Jason Day, the project representative, updated the South Fayette Township School District board on progress at the intermediate school, saying the district expects to turn over several new rooms over the Christmas break.
Day reported that ceiling grid installation is complete in three Phase‑3 rooms, top‑floor flooring finished and middle‑floor flooring scheduled to start. He said windows are due to ship next week and will be installed after masonry work concludes; a brick angle issue will be addressed by the masonry contractor next Monday. "The casework for those 3 rooms is scheduled for December 8. The completion date is the twelfth," Day said.
Work in Area 1 (the orchestra addition) is moving forward as well: corridor ceiling grid and lights are installed, classroom ceiling grid is to start and flooring contractors will move between phases to complete finishes toward the Dec. 12 target. In Area D, Day said foundations are roughly 95% complete and steel erection was scheduled to start Dec. 1. He added that underground plumbing and drainage work continue and that the general contractor is a couple of weeks behind its baseline schedule but that the delay is not yet critical.
A board member asked if formal occupancy permits will be required before staff or students move into the new spaces; Day replied that the township will provide occupancy for the two spaces discussed. District operations staff member Alan said he was "pleasantly surprised" by the current status and expects the work to be wrapped up in the coming weeks.
The board asked the general contractor for an updated schedule to determine whether recovery actions are needed. Day also showed photographs of recently completed interior work, exterior block and foundation waterproofing to illustrate progress.
Next steps: contractors will continue masonry and finishes, windows will be installed once masonry is complete, casework will be delivered in early December, and the district plans to accept turnover of the finished rooms over the December holiday break.
