Lafayette — The City Council authorized staff to submit a list of proposed wildfire mitigation projects to Senator Grayson’s office, including prioritized brush clearing along major evacuation routes, a pullout on Spring Hill Road and small, secured caches for cones and barricades at public locations.

Staff (Speaker 5) said the projects were developed with city departments and are aligned with fire‑agency coordination; the mayor and council noted Senator Grayson asked for projects that were ongoing and coordinated with local fire districts. Staff urged council authorization to meet the Dec. 1 submission deadline.

Council questioned whether the list should be prioritized and raised concerns about box aesthetics, siting and size. Staff said Public Works provided pricing and would evaluate sight‑distance and aesthetic options (wrapping/public art was suggested as one approach). Council moved and approved authorization for staff to submit the list.

Next steps: Staff will finalize the project descriptions and coordinate with fire agencies and fire districts (including Confire) to prepare the submittal by Dec. 1.
