The Planning Commission voted Nov. 24 to forward a special use permit application from Jamie (Mr.) White for a renovated barn short-term rental and event space to the Board of Supervisors with specific attendance and frequency limits.
Mr. White, who participated by phone, said he intended to operate the property primarily as a short-term rental with modest, private events and that he did not plan on long-term stays beyond a week. After questions about indoor vs. outdoor events and parking capacity, the applicant and commissioners agreed to a condition limiting events to a maximum of 40 attendees and to as many as 12 events per year (roughly one per month). "We are asking for 40... and that would be the max," Mr. White said.
Commissioners emphasized that the limit is intended to be conservative at startup and that Mr. White could return if he sought higher capacity; several members described the approach as consistent with prior practice of starting smaller and revisiting conditions if the use proves compatible. The motion to forward the permit with two limiting conditions passed and the record will go to the Board of Supervisors for a final decision.
Next steps: The Board of Supervisors will consider the SUP with the Planning Commission’s recommended conditions. The applicant may request to revisit event limits if demand or operational circumstances change.
