The Planning Commission voted on Nov. 24 to forward a zoning map amendment for Central Virginia Christian School to the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors after the applicant, Jumper Beasley, described an expansion plan that would add grades over several years and create space for an eventual high school.
Jumper Beasley, speaking for the school, said enrollment currently stands at about 267 students and that the school plans to grow incrementally by adding roughly one class per grade each year. "Currently, I believe our enrollment is around 270," Beasley told commissioners, and he estimated a full expansion could bring the campus population toward about 400 students over time as the high school program matures.
Beasley said the school has an agreement to use portions of a James River Equipment property and is seeking to make the entire campus zoning consistent by requesting Village Center zoning — the only district that allows a private school by right, he said. Commissioners asked about the intended student population for the new on-site academic building and whether the applicants had adequate parking and egress; Beasley said the new academic building on the recently purchased county land would house roughly 150 students and that the school expects to add grades over a multi-year period, targeting substantive completion of the new building by August 2027.
The commission had no public speakers signed up for the hearing, questioned the applicant briefly about timeline and site logistics, then moved the request to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
Next steps: The case is forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for consideration; the Planning Commission record will accompany the application.
