The Rutherford County Public Safety Committee on Nov. 24 received and approved routine departmental reports for October.

Animal shelter: Director Michael Gregory reported 375 intakes in October, euthanasia rate 8.6%, live‑release rates of 81.8% for dogs and 94.6% for cats (overall 88.6%); FYTD live‑release was 90.2% with 1,670 intakes. The shelter performed 150 surgeries for the public and processed 32 community cats; officers completed 1,236 calls and drove 9,524 miles in the month.

Risk management: Ed Even presented October incident totals (22 incidents; Board of Education 18; county government 4), OSHA log summaries, monthly reserves of $112,098 and YTD reserves of $831,280 with YTD paid claims of $535,443. Commissioners asked about state comparisons; Even said state figures typically arrive later in the year.

Recovery Court: Michelle Ricks reported 174 participants across court programs in October, with program-specific counts and a drug court graduation scheduled for Dec. 18 at 10 a.m.

Probation and Correctional Work Center: Probation reported 233 closed cases in October (197 clients), 1,342 active supervisees and program completions and assessments; Correctional Work Center reported monthly work‑release activity, trash collection totals and offender‑labor savings calculated at $68,008 for October. Kim Salyer, program coordinator, was congratulated for receiving a statewide program‑facilitator award.

Each departmental report was accepted by the committee by motion and voice vote. Questions asked during the reports included clarifications on data pages and state comparison timing for risk management figures.
