At the Nov. 25 workshop, the utilities department presented a planned water‑line replacement in District 1 (Pearl Street off Grandview). Alex (utilities staff) said the existing 8‑inch cast‑iron main dates from 1957 and has experienced six line breaks in the past decade. The project will replace 2,566 linear feet of pipe with PVC, add five hydrants and install 20 new valves to improve isolation and reliability.
Alex said the work is estimated to take about 16 weeks and that the cost estimate, including a 10% contingency, is $863,722.56. Staff said work is scheduled to begin around Dec. 1 and that resident notification will be provided.
Why it matters: the replacement addresses an aging main with repeated breaks and will add hydrants for fire suppression and valves for operational isolation, improving service reliability for residents in the corridor.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the job‑order contract items and municipal notifications prior to work beginning.
