Shannon reported the EMA Local Emergency Planning Committee recommended promoting Deputy Director Megan Wilson to EMA director effective Jan. 3, the day after Barbara (Barb) retires to a part-time role.

Shannon said the EMA board reviewed the transition plan and had taken resumes during recruitment. A commissioner confirmed the county’s resolution requires a seven-day internal and external recruitment period, which staff said had been fulfilled. A motion was made to accept the EMA board’s recommendation and passed.

Commissioners and staff praised Barb for her service; Barb said she will remain on a part-time basis to assist with transition and training. Commissioners asked staff to proceed with payroll and onboarding steps so the transition is effective Jan. 3.
