Speaker 1 opened the Governor’s Conference in Fredericksburg by thanking Governor Lee and Commissioner McWhorter for the invitation and encouraging attendees to enjoy Rutherford County. "Thanks to Governor Lee and the Commissioner McWhorter for asking me to welcome you all to Fredericksburg," Speaker 1 said.
Speaker 2 delivered the formal welcome, calling the meeting “GovCon” and praising Tennessee’s people and economic advantages. "Welcome to GovCon. This is incredible. It's gonna be so much fun. It's just Tennessee is so special," Speaker 2 said, adding that the state has an advantage that sets it apart from other states.
The speaker addressed the conference’s participants directly, naming county mayors, Economic and Community Development (ECD) staff, local chamber representatives, job creators and educators as key partners in a statewide effort. "Whether you're a county mayor, you're a ECD development person in your region, whether you're in the local chamber, whether you're a job creator, an educator," Speaker 2 said, arguing that the collaborative role those attendees play "is going to be life changing for our state."
A central proposal in the remarks was to consolidate Tennessee’s economic-development resources and messaging under one unified brand so it is easier for businesses to find and use state services. "The strength of Tennessee with how do we galvanize this and bring it under 1 brand ... now all of our treasures are in 1 box. And how amazing is it to unlock that box and tell businesses, here it is and we're all here to serve you," Speaker 2 said.
The remarks were framed as an opening appeal to accelerate outreach and coordination rather than a formal policy action. No votes, motions, or formal decisions were announced during this segment of the conference.
